Confirmation Class 2007-2008
“A Faith Adventure”

The Confirmation program is for young people in the ninth grade or older. The Rev. Margaret Jay will lead the Confirmation Class with the assistance of Anthony Corso and Cliff Castellano. As our curriculum foundation, we will be using the United Church of Christ curriculum, My Confirmation. The program is a mix of Sunday morning class sessions, field trips, and special events throughout the church year. Again this year we will be including several service and mission projects and plan to have a spring mission trip as part of our schedule.

Why don’t the ministers drink out of the ommunion chalice? Whose name is engraved on the communion bread tray? What year was the baptismal bowl given to the church? These and
other questions were part of a “stump your classmates” activity at the close of a confirmation segment on the sacraments. The Confirmation class has been focused on learning about worship and sacraments for the early weeks of their class.

The Confirmation Class has been learning about church history, including the history of this
congregation. Our classes this month have included a mini-retreat where we explored personal faith journeys and began to explore the history of First Congregational Church. November activities have included a “field trip” to the Center Street Cemetery and leadership of the Founders’ Day Wreath Laying Service on November 18, 2007 at 9:30 am. The class will also participate in 14th Annual Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, November 18, 2007 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m..
Advent and the life of Jesus will be our December focus and we will carry our study of Jesus’ teaching into the Epiphany season with a special emphasis on the parables, especially those that are incorporated into the Godspell musical which our music program will be presenting later in the spring.

A mailing with registration forms and a schedule for the 2007-2008 Confirmation Program will be sent to youth on our registration list who are entering grade nine. Others who are interested in Confirmation may contact the church office and speak with the Rev. Margaret Jay for additional information.
